A footnote in the sand of our lives

Books for the flight

So, I have been thinking, as the longest flight I have been on was only 4 hours, I think that a flight of 19 hours, 45 minutes will drag like a bitch. So will waiting at Heathrow and Hong Kong airport.

As such, I need to pack my iPod with TV series, Films and MP3s, but I also need some good books to read on the plane. I have been through my bookcase as I packed them into boxes to store at my parents and I have picked 3 books so far.

Book 1
The autobiography of a brown buffalo” by Oskar Zeta Acosta

Book 2
The revolt of the cockroach people” by Oskar Zeta Acosta

Book 3
The Rum Diary” – Hunter S Thompson
I believe that this is the only book by Hunter S Thompson that is actual fiction. While his other books were also regularly classified as fiction to avoid incriminating himself, The Rum Diary is the only book that was actually fiction.

The off thing about this selection is that it is very… well, closed minded. I fucking hate saying that, cause I am open minded. The Rum Diary is the only fictional book I have liked. Oskar Zeta Acosta is an excellent writer, giving an insight into his strange and weird life. He was Hunter S Thompsons attorney. Oskar Zeta Acosta is missing presumed dead. The last reported sighting of him was by the US Coast Guard on Miami Beach as he jumped out of a cigar boat they had been chasing. Under one arm he had a bag of cocaine, in the other hand he had a loaded uzi. What a monster, what a legend, one of a kind mould.

See, I want to take a few books and I dont want to get bored with the books. I know that the Hunter S Thompson book The Rum Diary will always be a good read. I also like the writing style of Oskar Zeta Acosta, but I may drop his “The revolt of the cockroach people” and replace it with something like “The great white shark hunt” by Hunter S Thompson.

I need your suggestions NOW!

What films, mp3s and books would you take with you if you could only take one film, one album and one book. Add a comment below, I would like your suggestions.

  1. I always pack my iPod when I travel. Of course, it goes without saying that Supernatural (the entire series) is there *big grin* I would suggest “Great Expectations” as a film to watch. It has always been my favorite book and film (the Ethan Hawke version).

I’m very eclectic with my music too. I have classical (mostly Bach, Beethoven and Lichner) Opera (Callas all the way), classic rock, Original Pinoy Music and *whispers* The Pussycat Dolls. I’m schizophrenic with music. But if it all boils down to one album – it would be Tori Amos’ Under the Pink.

I’m so excited baby…Can’t wait to have you here with me…

    • I’ve sectioned my music into two categories. Stay awake music and go to sleep music. Hopefully I can get some sleep on the plane so I’m not completely knackered when I land.
